Barbara Bardin is the owner and visionary force behind Splash at the Boathouse. She has a long and exciting career in the catering field with over thirty years as the “Chief Fantasy Officer” at Let’s Pretend Catering where her fame quickly spread for creating events and themed parties that are remembered for excellent food, excitement and originality. Barb still meets people who want to talk about “that great party!” of many years ago.

In 2003 Barb had the opportunity to obtain the lease on a beautiful second floor waterfront space over the boathouse in Burlington. Barb wanted the space for hosting events, but the lease included the small restaurant on the first level so she was in the restaurant business! Applying her love of great food, talent for exceptional presentation and friendly outlook Barb turned that little space into one of the main attractions on the Burlington Waterfront by adding the details that complete the experience. Color, smiles and great food served on a fish plate, all on a floating dock; it has to be fun!

A native Vermonter, Barb says, “I have always thought of Splash as the jeweled gateway to Burlington, a cheerful, upbeat place to enjoy delicious food and drinks, a way to realize what a wonderfully scenic spot we have here, a bistro where people can experience firsthand Vermont’s tradition of friendly service and hospitality.”

That upper level space is the Wakefield Room, named for James Wakefield, a Burlington ship’s chandler who heroically saved the lives of the crew of the “General Butler” when she collided on the breakwater in and icy storm in December of 1876. It is a very special place to host events, with lots of room indoors and out where people can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Lake and the Adirondack Mountains of New York with the most spectacular sunsets anywhere. Daytime or evening, rain or shine, an event at the Wakefield Room is always one to remember fondly.
